I would like to bring this letter to the attention of the mayor of Sliema: For the last couple of years I have been going to the council office in person complaining about litter and garbage accumulating at the corner of Depiro Street and St Ignatius Junction (only a few blocks from the mayor’s office) off the property of an abandoned block of apartment buildings previously owned by JPM Brothers.

To come to the point, the answer from his office is simple: “That is a private property and you cannot do anything about it”. If this is correct it is a disgrace to the council that pretends to keep Sliema clean of garbage.

Does this mean that any resident in Sliema can have garbage and litter piling up on their door steps and we just look at it because it is their private property?

Or have their pets do their thing on the door step? What kind of business is this? This is absurd and unheard of. Where are the wardens? Is it easier for them to stick parking tickets?

Let’s come to a better solution to solve this problem instead of sitting down on a chair telling people “we cannot do anything about it”.
