This government has done a lot of good things which were sometimes not popular. It would be much better if we recognise that, in these few years, very important changes and reforms that were really needed were made.

The secret recipe of the Prime Minister is that he listens to people’s complaints- Jurgen Farrugia, Mosta

The deficit was brought down from nine per cent to 2.7 per cent; there was the Malta Environment and Planning Authority reform, the public transport reform, Mater Dei Hospital, new roads, the excellent works on Valletta, roundabouts with flowers, a new power station.

All these reforms were needed and useful.

The problem in Malta is that, in order for a reform to take place and be implemented well, the Prime Minister needs to take it in his own hands.

The secret recipe of the Prime Minister to achieve success in such reforms is that he listens to people’s complaints. He listens to what people have to say. So why don’t ministers make a wider public consultation process with us citizens? After all, this is our money and the government is supposed to be our voice. This was done in this year’s Budgetwhere more space was given to public opinion.

We don’t want to have a country run by followers but what we want are good leaders who listen to our opinions and our needs.
