I was among the privileged few who attended a seminar organised at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs where Raymond Xerri, director for Maltese Living Abroad, delivered an excellent and erudite lecture on the local diaspora.
The interesting brainstorming on how bonds between Malta and the diaspora countries can be enhanced was most enlightening.
It’s a great pity that only representatives of Australia were present. What about those of Maltese residing in the USA, the UK, Canada, Brussels, etc?
These informative lectures should be open to the public too. We all have relatives residing abroad and it’s good to know how we can improve our communications, especially in the case of emergencies. We need to get the message across because the possibilities are endless.
