All 20 lifts inspected so far this year were found to have shortcomings, Consumer Affairs Minister Helena Dalli said in Parliament yesterday.

She was answering a question by Paula Mifsud Bonnici (PN).

Dr Dalli said two of the lifts had been shut down because they constituted serious risks to users.

Another one had been found to be inoperable because of missing parts, while yet another was awaiting certification.

She said the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA) was mulling the thought of naming operators who were supplying the market with non-conforming lifts.

The media would be engaged to get the message across that all lifts in Malta should be certified and registered according to law.
