A theatrical production in honour of the late Fr Peter Serracino Inglott is set to focus on the often thin line between farce and comedy, showing that theatre enlightens us on the futility of comparing our daily lives to tragedy.

Buffi tal-Kummiedja (Circus Clowns) is a two-act production scripted by Martin Gauci and produced by Dwal Ġodda, a theatrical group Fr Peter admired for the “sincerity in the productions”.

The story revolves around Peter and Rose, who decide to divide their house in three separate apartments.

What they are blissfully unaware of is that they will end up renting one of the apartments to two people who work as animators in a hotel. The other apartment is rented to two crafty Gozitan university students.

Before Peter and Rose know what’s happening, all hell breaks loose, with hilarious incidents quickly followed by strange ones.

The production deals with the surrealism of make-belief and magic in the land of theatre and with how difficult it is to keep this separate, particularly when reality as we live it keeps interfering.

Buffi tal-Kummiedja is being held at the Għargħur Theatre, Independence Avenue, on Saturday at 7.30pm and next Sunday at 6.30pm. For reservations call 7943 8328 or 9928 8288 or send an e-mail to gamar@go.net.mt.
