So, it has been decided that, to solve a problem, a bigger one must be created! I am no expert in traffic management but to state that buses are going to be given priority during rush hour is downright silly. I am not mincing words since the minister deemed us the public too dumb to understand his avant garde revolution!

How are buses going to be given priority in Tal-Barrani Road? If it is jammed, how can one give way? More often than not an ambulance is unable to manoeuvre around traffic, let alone a bendy bus! Since we now have a task force led by no less than the Prime Minister (as if being led by the Prime Minister is a solution in itself), let me suggest one thing, which I am 1,000 per cent sure would alleviate the problem. How about working around the clock so that Garibaldi Road is finished?

The minister stated on a TV programme that it is unrealistic to expect a road done from scratch to be ready in less than a year! Well, silly me has been abroad and can vouch to the contrary. Meanwhile where is the opposition? Can’t someone from the opposition get some statistics on the average time of a completion of a town street abroad? It is taking the easy way out.

If Labour want people like me, who do not identify with any party, to vote for their candidates they have to be proactive. By just stamping feet, they fail to impress, except for diehard supporters, who do not need impressing!

Another thing that needs to be addressed is the task force. I have noticed that Transport Malta has suddenly started to issue statements daily of improvements here and there. I smell a PR campaign here. It won’t wash, for the simple reason that motorists stuck in traffic are still being stuck in traffic. Some of us go to work by car and not by bus for the simple reason that our job dictates so and, unlike others, if we fail in our job we get fired!
