Mark Anthony Falzon’s article ‘As gay as a banned book’ (The Sunday Times of Malta, October 18) is typical of an armchair critic who assumes the role of an oracle, and criticises everyone from the stars down, as though he is surrounded by a population of half-brained citizens.

In his article he continues to refer to us parents (with a mocking tone) as “genituri nkwetati”, as though we are some bunch of morons roaming around the roads with ‘Princess on board’ stickers. This alone is a clear sign that he doesn’t even comprehend the sacrifices, hard work, sleepless nights and emotional roller-coaster rides parents have to endure to ensure that their children grow up to be respectful, productive adults.

Once again, and for the last time, we are not a hate group and neither are we homophobic; in fact we have absolutely no problems with gays or any other adult of a different opinion. We are only concerned about the fact that some people are attempting to burden our young children with adult agendas, through our public schools.

Our children have enough on their plate in coming to terms with the high expectations of modern society. The last thing we need to bring to their attention are gender and sexual orientation issues that can be of no help, other than to confuse their innocent minds.

We believe the diversity of natural stereotypes should be introduced at a much later stage through holistic sexual education. And if a child shows signs of diversity at a young, tender age, I am sure other children in the classroom that will not discriminate against him.

So please, let our children be children.
