I refer to the article ‘No plans to reopen Bisazza Street to traffic’, (The Sunday Times of Malta, June 8).

Bisazza Street should never have been closed to traffic – irrespective of shop owners’ concerns – but instead the concerns of the residents of Qui-si-Sana should have been taken into consideration.

It is a pity that most of the time hardly any people walk through Bisazza Street, yet still no traffic can pass through.

As I had once suggested to George Pullicino, the pavements in Bisazza Street should be widened and low pavements built to allow parking after shopping hours.

Enough road space should be left for vehicles to pass freely, but more importantly, no parking should be allowed in Bisazza Street during shopping hours.

Both Bisazza Street and the Tigné tunnel should be open for drivers to decide their route.

I am really surprised how the Sliema council can “strongly oppose” the reopening of Bisazza Street – is the welfare of the residents of Qui-si-Sana not of any concern to the mayor and the rest of the council?
