Sunday, November 11, marked the 94th anniversary of the end of the Great War – World War 1 (1914-18), which had been described as “the war to end all wars”.

Since 1920 the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month (when the armistice came into effect in 1918) has been commemorated as Remembrance Day worldwide – apart from Naxxar, it seems.

I flew the Union Flag from my terrace on this day. Looking over the village I could see no other flags of nations flying. Walking through the village on Remembrance Sunday I noticed that the only one was the Naxxar flag flown, as usual, outside the HSBC branch.

Come on Naxxar, you can do better than this. Next year, perhaps?
