The migrant crisis in Europe was one of the main reasons UK citizens voted to leave the EU.

The migrant crisis is getting worse by the day and all we get is top politicians and ministers running around like headless chickens during summits talking about veiled threats of closing borders or control measures. In reality, nothing is being done.

This is a real threat to us all and leaders need to get this crisis sorted out.

It would certainly make the situation clearer within Europe and send the message to migrants that it’s no good trying to get to the various entry points if foreign ministers get together and come up with a solution, even if it is only to reinstate the borders.

This weak policy on immigration has to stop. The tide of refugees coming through individual ports of entry must be stopped, therefore saving lives. The death toll from drowning in boats filled like sardines with hundreds of refugees not suitable to face bad weather conditions will rocket sky high if we leave things unchanged.

While it is also crucial to protect European countries from terrorism, we should be wary of misrepresenting migrants as terrorists. Most migrants in Europe are desperate people risking their lives to flee suffering. Our leaders in Europe must find a way to protect ourselves from terrorism and to show compassion with these people seeking sanctuary.

We need better procedures to register these migrants. We need to check their documents and to track their onward journeys. Only by dealing with the challenge at the arrival point will we manage it effectively.

It is possible for governments both to provide immigrants with protection and to assure citizens this crisis is under control.
