Even before last Monday’s tragedy, I was considering sending a letter asking whether, as Glasgow did when it was Capital of Culture in 1988, would Malta be publishing a list of local traditions for visitors to understand the daily dangers of life here.
For example, motorists have right of way, stop signs – like pedestrian crossings – are pointless, double yellow lines are for parking on, in existent roundabout discipline and orderly queuing being a joke. If you need any help from the pointless police you need to speak Maltese, otherwise expect the standard answer: we are too busy eating and surfing the internet.
Monday’s sad event has only served to highlight the total lack of law and order.
May Daphne Caruana Galizia rest in peace.
