The Laudate Pueri Choir of St George’s Basilica, Victoria, has been invited to sing together with the Cappella Musicale Pontificia ‘Sistina’ by its director, Mgr Massimo Palombella, during Epiphany Mass on January 6 at St Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican in Rome, which will be presided by Pope Francis.

The Cappella Pontificia ‘Sistina’ has invited world-class choirs such as the Westminster Abbey Choir and the Westminster Cathedral Choir in the past.

Pierluigi da Palestrina’s Surge, illuminare Hierusalem for double choir will be sung for the occasion.

During its stay in Rome, the choir will be performing a recital of sacred, a cappella excerpts, ranging from Renaissance to contemporary pieces, at St Anne’s church at the Vatican on January 4.

The recital is being accorded the distinguished patronage of the Pontificio Consiglio della Cultura, headed by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, Cardinal Prospero Grech, who will be guest of honour and patron, and Mgr Mario Grech. The choir will be under the direction of Fr George Joseph Frendo.
