Joe Cassar, former health minister, appeared to blame the Labour party (April 25) for the failed acquisition of St Philip’s Hospital very shortly before the recent general election.
Negotiations had in fact been going on between the Government and the owner of this hospital for around three years.
Trying to conclude a deal just before the election smacked of administrative somnolence and inefficiency (which got their electoral rewards), if not more negative undercurrents.
This had obviously nothing to do with Dr Cassar’s efforts, but then rebuilding the Grand Harbour’s breakwater steel bridge was deemed by other ministers of higher priority than acquiring St Philip’s.
