Nadur Youngsters are the new leaders of the GFA Division One league after beating SK Victoria Wanderers by the odd goal in five in an exciting match.

For Nadur, this was their second win over the Citizens in a month after their success in the Independence Cup final.

Nadur enjoyed the better start but as the game progressed, Victoria began to share the exchanges.

It was Nadur who opened the scoring with a header from Claudio Antunes after a shot by Milos Stojanovic came off the crossbar.

The Wanderers equalised in first-half stoppage time through Sergio Paz who finished off a good move by Kenneth Mercieca.

The Citizens turned the result in their favour when Paz scored his second goal after Nadur goalkeeper Grima had partially saved a strike by Mercieca.

On 69 minutes, Nadur made it 2-2 when Saviour Attard headed home from Simoncic’s free-kick.

A string of good saves by Grima stopped Victoria regaining the lead as the Nadur goalkeeper blocked efforts from Sanchez Estrada, Mercieca and substitute Lauran Dimech.

It was Nadur who grabbed a late winner thanks to Charles Mercieca’s header from another Simoncic free-kick.

In another match from the fourth day of the championship, Xagħra United missed an opportunity to retain top spot as they were held to a draw by Sannat Lions.

Xagħra looked over-confident at times and were punished for their attitude as Sannat struck a stoppage-time equaliser.

The Blues dominated the early stages but attempts by Chris Camilleri and debutant Kengo Takashima were saved by Adrian Parnis.

Sannat were dangerous on the counter and took the lead on 12 minutes through Sunday Baala following a corner action.

On 23 minutes, Xagħra were awarded a penalty for a handsball by Peter Buttigieg and Takashima scored from the spot to make it 1-1.

The game became more balanced with the two teams creating chances.

John Camilleri put Xagħra 2-1 up with a fine shot after receiving from Hongla. The latter left his side with a player short two minutes after the hour after he committed a second bookable offence.

Yet, Xagħra could have increased their lead on 68 minutes when an attempt by John Camilleri was cleared off the line by Josiah Buttigieg.

Xagħra tried to protect their slim lead but in the final stages Sannat increased their efforts. In the second minute of stoppage time, Xagħra’s Simon Sultana was sent off for elbowing and from the resultant free-kick, taken by Qordja, Manwel Cordina hit home from close in.

Division Two

Leaders Oratory Youths recorded their fourth consecutive win after beating Żebbuġ Rovers.

Oratory went ahead through Christian Cardona (30). Żebbuġ rarely threatened Oratory’s defence and the Youths made sure of victory with a second-half hat-trick by Shaun Attard (63, 76, 81 pen.).

Għajnsielem recovered from a difficult start as they ground out a 2-1 win over Għarb Rangers.

Għarb forged ahead on 47 minutes with a strike by Josef Portelli but the Blacks staged a good reaction to overturn the deficit with a brace from Charlon Tabone (64, 90).

In another Division Two match, Qala Saints stunned St Lawrence Spurs to collect their first points.

The Spurs held territorial supremacy but were denied by a series of fine saves from Qala goalkeeper Kenny Grima.

The Saints scored the decisive goal eight minutes from time through Shaun Muscat.
