Newly crowned champions Nadur Youngsters were held to a 2-2 draw by Xewkija Tigers in a tense encounter where victory could have gone either way.

Nadur had an excellent start as they opened the scoring in the fourth minute through Claudio Antunes. Xewkija hit back strongly, going close to equalising on at least two occasions before Dene Shields made it one-all on 25 minutes.

Nadur were then reduced to 10 men as Antunes was sent off for retaliation. As the Brazilian striker is now suspended for the last championship match, he will miss the chance to strengthen his challenge for the top scorer award.

Nadur were the better side after the break and deservedly went 2-1 up on 73 minutes through a Milos Stojanovic goal.

The champions also had a late goal scored by Josef Buttigieg disallowed for offside but deep into stoppage time, Xewkija scored a dramatic equaliser as a header by Dos Santos hit the crossbar and from the resultant melee, Shields headed into an open goal.

In another match from the top flight, SK Victoria Wanderers ended their championship commitments with a 1-0 win over derby rivals Victoria Hotspurs.

The Wanderers dictated matters for most of the first half. A shot by Nwankwo hit the post and another effort from Oliver Farrugia came off the crossbar.

The Hotspurs enjoyed their best patch during the initial stages of the second period but soon the Wanderers regained supremacy and scored the goal that decided the issue six minutes from time through Lauran Dimech.

Thanks to this victory, the Wanderers secured third place in the final table.

Meanwhile, Xagħra United defeated relegated side Sannat Lions by the odd goal in five in a match that was also decided in the dying moments.

This was the last game of the championship for the two sides. Xagħra moved to fifth place and may avoid the relegation play-off if Victoria Hotspurs lose to Xewkija in their final game.

Xagħra forged ahead through Maurice Hongla but Bleddar Vata made it 1-1 on 29 minutes.

The Blues regained the lead with a header from skipper Joseph Bartolo just before half-time but Sannat were not demoralised and scored their second equaliser on 82 minutes thanks to another fine strike by Vata.

Xagħra, however, gained all three points at stake with the decisive goal that arrived two minutes from time through Jason Portelli.
