Three Romanian lap dancers were yesterday given a suspended jail term for stealing a mobile phone and €40 in cash from a client early on Thursday morning.

The three women – Daniela Cuzmenco, 29, Carmen Boca, 24, and Ana Maria Ciocarlan, 22, who live in Paceville – admitted to taking the items from Denys Krakhmalny at about 2am.

During the proceedings, the women huddled in the dock next to their court-appointed translator.

Police Inspector Trevor Micallef told Magistrate Miriam Hayman the accused had cooperated during investigations and that the phone had been returned to the owner.

He suggested that, since they were first-time offenders, a suspended jail term would be in order. Defence lawyer Charmaine Cherrett agreed. The magistrate handed down a one-year jail term suspended for 18 months. She explained to the three women the consequences of committing such a crime during the operative period of a suspended prison sentence.
