I was really intrigued by the letter written by Tony Connolly of Morecambe in the UK.

It is really refreshing to come across an Englishman who is keen to learn the Maltese language. He says he is looking forward “to the day I can try and speak a little Maltese”. His words put most of us to shame.

How different is the attitude of so many Maltese who cannot help themselves to speak their proper language when interviewed on TV? These individuals pepper their conversation with English words and expressions when the Maltese language is more than adequate to express your views about any subject under the sun.

It’s nothing but laziness or, alternatively, just to show off their superiority or how eloquent they are even in English.
