President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca yesterday announced the release of two Maltese-language cartoons at Verdala Palace.

Created by Maltese artists in a collaboration between the National Council for the Maltese Language and the NGO Write Deal, the two cartoons are adaptations of popular fairytales: Il-Ħwejjeġ tal-Imperatur (The Emperor’s New Clothes) u Is-Sbejħa Rieqda (Sleeping Beauty).

They will be distributed to all schools in Malta and Gozo and made available online, as well as being shown in cinemas before main features.

The President emphasised the need to embrace and promote the Maltese language as an integral part of the national identity.

She also praised the choice of stories and the social values that they promote.
