As a seasoned collector of Maltese coins I have recently acquired the latest Malta euro set issued by the Central Bank (2011).

Upon close inspection, I noticed that the initials “NGB” (referring to the designer), which are usually found on the 5c, 2c and 1c coins are missing. This is a pity because several euro coins feature either the initials of their designer or, indeed, the name in full.

The topic was also mentioned in a prominent website: www.fleur-de-coin.com/eurocoins/malta-euro-coins.asp .

It would be interesting to know whether this was a mistake by the Dutch mint, of which there is also no mintmark.
