One of Malta’s most iconic crafts is currently receiving a photographic tribute by a South African photographer.
Entitled Lacey & Lace, Nadette Clare-Talbot’s exhibition celebrates lace, showcasing 18 works with lace as the running theme.
The exhibition features nine beauty portraits, with each one paired with a complementary still.
Although all the images will be exhibited in pairs, each can still exist in their own right.
Clare-Talbot said that the idea of exhibiting the photos in pairs came from her years shooting for high-end fashion magazines such as Elle and Marie Claire.
“I found that I instinctively visualised my imagery in a double page layout. I wanted to echo that idea in my exhibition by creating images as a two-part story,” she says.
“As lace is the common thread, I explored the concept by integrating the fabric in the styling aspects of the subject matter, and then layering the images digitally afterwards by incorporating scanned-in pieces of the textile,” she says.
The final pieces are printed on canvas at 80x120cm each, to fully appreciate the layered textures.
• Lacey & Lace runs at Le Méridien St Julian’s Hotel & Spa until the end of August.
