Thousands of euros in potable water are being lost due to inferior pipelines, according to Labour Party spokesman for local government Stefan Buontempo.
“People are suffering continuous and substantial loss of water because the Water Services Corporation, which falls within (Finance Minister) Tonio Fenech’s remit, does not have a logistical plan on the maintenance ofthe distribution network andthe efficient repair of pipes,” Dr Buontempo said.
He said the WSC did not have enough workers to cope with the repairs and that they did not have the “adequate tools” to carry out the works properly.
This, he said, was leading to roads which had been resurfaced recently by councils being torn up again to repair the faults.
“We know of various cases including in Żurrieq, Kirkop, Senglea and Gżira where residents spent months facing the inconvenience until these faults were repaired,” Dr Buontempo said.
He said the Labour Party was disgusted at the way the government was addressing the WSC’s workings, and said the corporation should have management which was “truly knowledgeable on work management”.
