Just two facts that show the Labour Party’s true colours.

Up to a few days before the Budget Speech by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech, Labour used to criticise the Government for not honouring its election pledge to slash the income tax rate for those earning up to €60,000 a year from 35 per cent to 25 per cent, mostly affecting the middle class.

Now that Fenech announced that the promise would be implemented over the next three years, the Opposition is accusing the Government of favouring the rich and abandoning the lower income earners. For Labour now the downtrodden middle class has suddenly become rich, perhaps to be replaced by a “new” middle class.

This is an other example of how Labour changes its colours according to the circumstances.

Again, in Italy, Silvio Berlusconi’s party decided to end its support for the technocratic Government of Mario Monti. But for the sake of financial stability and the national interest, it will vote in favour of the Budget.

Our Labour Party does not think on the same lines as the Italian PDL party and voted against the Budget. It is interested only in winning the election – a big difference which should make us all think.
