A joint meeting of Labour’s executive and parliamentary group yesterday decided that by-elections will be held on the first, second, eight, tenth and 12th electoral districts.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat will vacate his seat on the second district, leaving Labour MP Chris Agius as the most likely to be elected in his stead.

Deputy Prime Minister Louis Grech is vacating the first district, opening the way for David Farrugia Sacco or Luciano Busuttil to make it to Parliament.

Veteran Joe Debono Grech is the favourite to pick up the vacated seat of Finance Minister Edward Scicluna on the eighth district.

On the tenth district, vacated by Minister Emmanuel Mallia, it is almost certain that former deputy leader Michael Falzon will win the by-election while Deborah Schembri is the front-runner on the 12th district.
