Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata is the next opera to be screened live from the Metropolitan Opera tomorrow as part of Spazju Kreattiv’s programme.

The opera survived a notoriously unsuccessful opening night to become one of the best loved in the repertoire. Following the larger scale dramas of Rigoletto and Il Trovatore, its intimate scope and subject matter inspired the composer to create some of his most profound and heartfelt music.

Considered a pinnacle of the soprano repertoire, the role of opera’s most beloved heroine, Violetta, is sung by Sonya Yoncheva opposite Michael Fabiano as her lover, Alfredo, and Thomas Hampson as his father, Germont.

■ The live broadcast is taking place tomorrow at St James Cavalier in Valletta at 6.55pm. The opera is in Italian with English subtitles. Encore screenings are scheduled for April 2, June 25 and July 9. Spazju Kreattiv offers full season tickets for the live performances and encore screenings of the Met Opera.
