Lotteries and Gaming Authority chief executive Reuben Portanier has been named among the 50 most crucial people in the global gaming industry.

The list was published in the January issue of GIQ Magazine, an international publication of Gaming Intelligence. It revealed the profiles of the most talented, innovative and inspiring individuals working in the online gambling industry.

The annual Gaming Intelligence Hot 50 recognises the people who have made a difference to industry during the past year. Mr Portanier was declared as a Hot 50 following nominations from the industry professionals and by a prestigious panel of judges.

“Reuben Portanier is one of the industry’s good guys,” GIQ Magazine said. “He works relentlessly hard, he treats employees, partners and licensees with respect, and is regarded as a proper gentleman.

“Malta has often found itself at the centre of controversy and Portanier has fought its corner while also listening to criticism and responding to it with actions. He has placed Malta at the centre of European debate, speaking up for firm and fair regulation at all times. He is an ambassador for his country and for the industry.”

LGA chairman Nick Xuereb said he was “not at all surprised” at Mr Portanier’s inclusion in the list.Mr Xuereb cited the dedication Mr Portanier places “in upholding the Malta position and in his visionary approach in always seeking how to introduce avante garde concepts”.
