Għaxaq local council is organising Carnival Village, starting on February 7 with the Karnival Bandu, provided by the MTA in collaboration with the Home Affairs Ministry.

The two local bands – St Mary and St Joseph –will play as one band around the locality. There will also be a group of masquerades from the Nadur Carnival Group together with spontaneous masquerades from the locality.

On February 8, the Kukkanja will be one of the main attractions. The group Greenfields will be present-ing a programme for the occasion, while a folklore group from Gozo will also participate. During these events, decorative carts and karozzini (horse-drawn carriages) will be taking people around the village.

The Kukkanja is a traditional game where people trying to collect as many presents as they can while climbing a pole overcoming the obstacles they encounter. The winners will also win monetary prizes. The first prize will be €200, while the second prize is €100.
