Fires on two bendy buses in one day, following several other similar incidents, have stoked a debate about their safety and suitability for Malta’s roads. But commuters yesterday did not appear to be too perturbed. Some of them, questioned by Keith Micallef at the Valletta terminus were more concerned by lack of reliability and punctuality, an issue that has plagued the service from the outset.

Arriva has insisted that its buses are safe. Transport Malta is carrying out an investigation.

The GWU has warned it may order drivers not to drive bendy buses if it is proved that they are dangerous.
