Malta has confirmed it will host the Junior Eurovision Song Contest next year after Gaia Cauchi’s recent victory in Kiev. Anton Attard, CEO of Public Broadcasting Service, signed the paperwork for the station to be host broadcaster for the 2014 competition.

“We’re proud of our local girl Gaia Cauchi winning Junior Eurovision in Kiev in December and want to continue to showcase our talents here,” he said.

PBS chairman Tonio Portughese said the country planned to engage thousands of schoolchildren in activities connected with the event.

“The Junior Eurovision is a competition but also a celebration of youth achievement.

“As a public service broadcaster and also a small island, our vision is to unite Europe in a musical feast,” he said.
