July was 2.6°C hotter than normal, with the average temperature hitting 28.5°C.

And between the ninth and the 12th the mercury rose five degrees above the normal for July – officially a heat wave – the airport’s meteorological office said yesterday. The highest, 40.7°C, was reached on July 11, a full 10°C above the norm.

The highest ever recorded maximum temperature for July is 42.7°C, reached on July 9, 1988.

The sun shone for an average of 12 hours and 12 minutes a day, again 24 minutes longer than what is normal for the month.
