The owners of expropriated land in Fgura they say is valued at more than €3 million have filed a judicial protest against the Commissioner of Land calling on him to come to an agreement on the payment due.

They decided to file the protest after the land, measuring some 3,000 square metres was taken twice for public use.

The largest part was first taken in 1967 and the remainder in 1984, the owners said, adding that while the land was worth more than €3 million they were offered just €158,000.

The owners claimed that despite several attempts at trying to reach an amicable agreement with the Commissioner all attempts failed as he had failed to fulfil his obligations.

Claiming a breach of rights, they held him responsible for any damages. The protest was signed by lawyer Jos A. Schembri.
