Wannabe “pop star” Emmanuel Balzan, known as Tristan B, has lost an appeal to be granted bail after a judge deemed him untrustworthy. The 34-year-old entertainer was remanded in custody on April 6 after pleading not guilty to charges of defrauding a man of €2,300.

Mr Balzan was recently given a suspended jail term for defrauding a man of €1,500 and has another five similar pending cases, including one where he stands charged with defrauding two companies of €70,000. Mr Justice Michael Mallia refused Mr Balzan’s request for bail on grounds that he was an untrustworthy person and that the main witnesses still had to testify.

Lawyers Josè Herrera and Veronique Dalli appeared for Mr Balzan.
