Anthony Spiteri writes:
It is said that the person who deserves a monument is the one who does not need one. Joe does not need a monument.
What he left behind him when he went to meet the Risen Lord on September 4 speaks louder than a marble monument. As an exemplary family man, he bequeathed a united and dedicated family who shared with him the ups and downs of life.
Posterity will remember him for his many artistic works, especially the outstanding Balluta church, where we paid him our last respects.
Surely, many ex-University students will remember Joe, an architect by profession, for his interesting lectures and unfailing commitment when he was a senior lecturer at the University.
I always admired his readiness to share with others whatever he had. This included not only his professional knowledge and his high values but also rare books and musical pieces. Joe was a man of faith. Even during the last difficult years of his life, he never lamented about the sufferings he had to bear.
He used to tell me that his only preoccupation was that others were suffering as a result of his condition. He is greatly missed by his family, relatives and many friends.
May the Good Lord grant him eternal rest.
