Tenor Joseph Calleja’s stolen car was found in a garage in Tarxien yesterday afternoon and two men were arrested.

The modest Pajero jeep was reported stolen last week from a private communal car park in Sliema.

Mr Calleja had issued a public appeal for information on Facebook and Twitter, asking the public to help track down the 2001 model.

The vehicle was found by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department who arrested two men in the garage, which is located in the centre of the town.

Mr Calleja yesterday said he was thrilled to have the vehicle back, adding he was surprised that it had not already been reduced to spare parts. The Pajero was his “first and only” car and he has owned it for 12 years.

He said he had felt it was important to alert the public to the theft as he did not want the vehicle to be used in some heinous criminal act.

He thanked the public for the support and the police for their efforts in locating what he described as a vehicle packed with sentimental value.
