This year, the President’s Charity Fun Run will be held on December 4. Like the two previous editions, the run will start from the President’s Palace at San Anton at 10 a.m. Those who opt to walk will set off simultaneously from in front of Casa Leone in St Venera.

The energy of a 10,000-strong crowd should in itself be enough to keep you going

President George Abela himself will be leading the run and all participants will be expected to follow. The two groups, runners and walkers, will finally walk en masse towards the Grandmasters’ Palace in Valletta.

For the runners, the distance of around seven kilometres should be covered in around 45 minutes. This equates to around six minutes and 30 seconds per kilometre.

If you are generally healthy and can walk at a brisk pace without pain, then you should be able to embark on a short period of gentle training that could be enough to allow you to keep within touching distance of the thousands of joggers on the day without undue stress.

The energy of a 10,000-strong crowd should in itself be enough to keep you going even if you normally are not able to jog.

For all beginners who are not running fit but do not wish to miss out on the opportunity of sharing this great experience, you simply need to get out and jog.

A few tips when embarking on a training run, however slow or short it may be, is to drink lots of water.

Application forms for the Fun Run may be downloaded from the website www.funrun.org.mt or collected from San Anton Palace, Attard, the Palace, Valletta, or at Banif Bank branches.
