Caught in a tug of war between liberals and conservatives, Nationalist Party exponents have called in philosophy professor Joe Friggieri to give them direction.

He has been invited to give the keynote speech during the party’s general conference tomorrow. Prof. Friggieri has been asked to discuss “the role of the party in a changing society” and is expected to call for a more open and inclusive party that could attract liberals within its fold, sources said.

Only last week, Prof. Friggieri challenged President Emeritus Eddie Fenech Adami who said MPs should block the divorce Bill.

On a live radio programme, Prof. Friggieri called in to say MPs who voted No in the referendum and were now voting Yes in Parliament were not contradicting their consciences, as Dr Fenech Adami claimed. Rather, they were voting Yes because their conscience was telling them to respect the people’s decision.
