Unemployment increased in November when 7,639 people were registering for work with the Employment and Training Corporation.

The National Statistics Office said there were 541 more people in November compared with the same month in 2012.

This was mainly due to more people over 45 and those who had been seeking employment for more than a year.

Registered unemployed in Malta rose by 7.5 per cent to 6,866 while in Gozo it went up by nine per cent to 773.

There were 1,272 under-25s seeking a job, down by 3.6 per cent compared with November 2012. Those with a disability numbered 533.

The unemployment rate in July 2013 (this calculation is backdated as job figures are confirmed late) was 4.4 per cent of the labour supply.
