A 28-year-old jobless man was charged with using pepper spray to rob a lotto booth owner last Friday.

Jonathan Zammit, 28, from St Paul’s Bay, denied carrying out the hold-up at about 3.45pm, stealing a mobile phone and less than €400 in cash.

He also denied holding Sean Fenech Adami against his will, slightly injuring him and illegally carrying pepper spray.

When giving his particulars to the court, Mr Zammit said he did not know what address he was living at and looked at his mother who gave her address and said he was living with her.

He was remanded in custody.
