A salesgirl working for Sterling Jewellers was jailed for two years suspended for four after pleading guilty to stealing thousands of euros worth of jewellery from her outelt since January.

Jo Anne Camilleri, 40, from San Ġwann, pleaded guilty to stealing the jewellery between January and March.

The court heard that the police found several items of jewellery at her house worth some €3,500, which included rings, earrings, bangles and necklaces. The court heard also that the matter reached the police after the owners and managers of Sterling Jewellers began noticing stock was going missing.

After having considered her early guilty plea, the fact that she had returned the stolen items and the fact that she was a first-time offender, Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras jailed her for two years suspended for four years.

Police inspectors Carlos Cordina and Trevor Micallef prosecuted.

Lawyer Victor Bugeja appeared for the woman.
