The Velts

Three-piece band The Velts is another of those up-and-coming bands on the local music scene with much to offer. More specifically, they are one of the more promising additions to the Maltese indie scene.

Formerly known as The Kid Knees, the band has only been around since January 2012, but in their relatively short existence they’ve supported some of the leading local acts – among them Skimmed, Violent Violets, Hey Sus! and Clandestines – making a big enough impression on their own steam in the process.

During the summer, the band released its debut single Jealous, which reflects both their classic post-punk influences as well as their more contemporary indie inclinations. The end product is peppered with a pop urgency that adequately elevates the song’s mainstream appeal while retaining its indie credentials.

Recorded and produced by Gilbert Micallef, Jealous is a very strong step forward for this upcoming band; one that essentially ensures we’ll be seeing and hearing more from them in 2014. Jealousy is available as a free download online.
