The total sum spent on transfers in January was £120 million, double last year’s amount.
Clubs fighting against relegation, namely Queens Park Rangers and Newcastle, were the biggest spenders as they strive to preserve their Premier League status.
The top transfer deals were sealed by Manchester United, who signed Wilfried Zaha, Arsenal who brought in Nacho Monreal, Manchester City, who sold Mario Balotelli to Milan, Queens Park Rangers’ capture of Christopher Samba and Liverpool’s signing of Daniel Sturridge.
