The findings of the Council of Europe report on the prevention of torture, which uncovered major shortcomings at Corradino Correctional Facility, were passed on to the prison reform board, the Home Affairs Ministry said.

Pointing out that the replies attached to the report had been submitted by the previous administration, the ministry said it was taking heed of the report contents.

It found the deteriorating prisons needed a “total renovation” to ensure inmates had adequate light and sanitary facilities. There was also overcrowding and lack of activities.
