A man claiming to be a barman, a waiter, a professional gardener, a part-time actor and radio presenter yesterday denied being involved in the importation of a kilo of cocaine.

Ola Rotimi Akins, 25, from Madrid but born in Nigeria, denied conspiring to import the drugs with Edward Cardona, 30, from St Paul’s Bay, on Tuesday.

Police Inspector Pierre Grech told Magistrate Edwina Grima the two formed part of a drug ring.

Mr Akins was heard saying that the accusations levelled at him were lies.

Magistrate Grima denied bail.
