Just over 100,000 Maltese travelled abroad between April and June, an increase of six per cent over the same period last year, according to the National Statistics Office.

They spent €76.6 million between them, equivalent to €114 per night and a rise of 2.1 per cent. The number of nights they spent abroad rose by 12.5 per cent to 673,650, mainly in private accommodation establishments.

Italy and the United Kingdom remained the most popular destinations.
