Greta Ramelli (left) and Vanessa Marzullo, two Italian aid workers taken hostage in Syria five months ago, arrived at Ciampino airport in Rome, yesterday. The women were kidnapped while volunteering as healthcare assistants in the Syrian city of Aleppo. Italy said yesterday reports that a €12 million ransom was paid were “baseless” but did not deny directly that a payment had been made.
