From the hearings of the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) it has emerged that, as a lawyer, Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia was aware of the corruption taking place and was even involved – always as a lawyer – in some internal squabbling within the oil trader’s family.

Will the PAC now be calling Mallia as a witness or will he use the excuse that he cannot divulge what he knows – and apparently he does know a lot – because of professional secrecy?

His client is free to release him from the pledge of confidentiality and allow him to talk.

I am sure this is possible.

We deserve to know the truth and the minister can certainly explain a lot of things that have happened regarding the oil scandal.
