Therese Comodini Cachia (‘Making a fast buck from education’, The Sunday Times of Malta, June 14) concludes that education is not a sellable commodity and that for a university, or other institutions of learning, to make money on the backs of international students is tantamount to a scandal.

Is that so? Is it scandalous for English and American universities to charge tuition fees? Is it scandalous for the University of Malta to charge non-EU students tuition fees? Are Malta’s private schools, English language schools and all our private tuition set-ups morally wrong to charge fees?

It never fails to amaze how practically everything in Malta becomes a political football. Why is this so? Is it because the priorities of politicians are: first, country; second, political party; and, third, me.

Or is it the other way round?  Got it?
