Disquieting noises are emanating from the Labour camp. There appears to be increasing concern that the apparent immaturity of Joseph Muscat and some of his questionable decisions may drive the party to yet another electoral defeat.
The brutal annihilation of Anġlu Farrugia as deputy leader has left a deep scar, which, some contend, makes a mockery of the party’s erstwhile slogan Team Magħqud (A united team) and hardly lends credibility to the party’s election slogan Malta tagħna lkoll (Malta belongs to us all).
There is also disenchantment that Dr Muscat has given too much prominence to ‘whiz-kid’ Konrad Mizzi and allowed him to put the party in a tight corner with his apparently ill-prepared energy proposal, which is appearing to be growing more impracticable by the day.
Consequently, a feeling of unease has descended in the Labour camp and people are struggling to put up a brave face. With the election weeks away, it is hoped that the party may steer away from dubious strategies which may cost it the election.
