A fit of drunken rage early on Sunday morning cost an Irishman €200 for a car’s side mirror as well as a suspended jail term.

Brendan Kelly, 24, was walking home after an evening drinking at a Paceville bar when he kicked the mirror, sending it smashing to the ground.

The incident happened in Swieqi Road at around 3.45am on Sunday, when Mr Kelly was walking home after having an argument with a bar patron.

Before Magistrate Gabriella Vella, Mr Kelly paid the car owner €200 for the damage he had caused.

After taking into consideration the early guilty plea and the reimbursement of damages, the court jailed him for four months suspended for a year.

Police Inspector Elton Taliana prosecuted while lawyer Benjamin Valenzia represented the accused.
