Top Maltese artist Ira Losco was invited to give two performances during the World Cultural Festival last weekend.

The international event, which featured an impressive line-up of artists from 151 countries, was held at the Berlin Olympic Stadium on July 2 and 3 and broadcast on various TV stations.

As one of the festival’s headlining acts, the Maltese singer was asked to deliver a peace message to the diplomats, peace ambassadors and guests present.

On Saturday, Losco performed on the main stage in front of 70,000 people; the next day, she played in the Pavilion to a further 19,000 festival-goers.

The World Culture Festival was founded by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, who played a key role in bringing opposing parties to the negotiating table in the conflicts involving Iraq, Ivory Coast, Kashmir and Bihar.

Shankar is known for his efforts to promote harmony among different religions as well as multi-cultural education, which he believes are essential in achieving sustainable peace on our planet.

Losco said: “This is an exciting year for me because I’ve kept a relatively low profile for the past 12 months or so, during which I’ve had the time to look at things from a different perspective...

“It’s very easy to get trapped into a lifestyle which distracts you from the main objective. I hate being predictable and I can’t stand routines or working to a formula. I am determined to learn more and experience new things.”

Howard Keith, from Losco’s management, said the singer performed further shows in more intimate venues in Berlin and that she has also been confirmed to perform at more international events, among them one that will also feature Lucio Dalla, Max Gazzé and other Italian Sanremo stars at a world-famous venue.

“Details of the other events will be released soon, along with news of the launch of the new Jagged House recording studios,” he said, adding that his company recently also signed a publishing deal with a major company.

Losco is currently working on her highly-anticipated new album, which is expected to include some surprise collaborations with influential international artists. The album is scheduled for release later in the year.
