The identities of members of the Curia’s Safeguarding Commission are public but those of the investigators who probe allegations of sexual abuse will remain confidential.

On Wednesday, Times of Malta carried an item titled ‘Curia sex abuse team will not be identified’. The headline referred to the team of investigators and not the five members of the Safeguarding Commission, whose identities were made public during a press conference last month.

The commission is responsible for developing an educational and training programme for priests, religious and lay people working with children and vulnerable adults. It is also responsible for investigations.

The names of the investigators would not be made public to shield them from people trying to influence them, the Curia said.
